A Beautiful Bond: From Birth To Present
Every umbilical cord tells a story;
mine, different than yours and
yours, different from the next.
It is a cord shared between two:
newborn and mother.
The unbreakable bond, already formed.
I am my mother.
Her greatest attributes are mine:
care, caution, comfort,
discipline, efficiency, listening,
love, organization, passion,
promptness, and selflessness.
These were, and still are, hers;
the cord made them mine,
along with plenty of time.
Time to become a better me.
A me for all to see.
A me to make my mother proud,
one she can talk about,
and show her glowing smile.
I am my mother.
Her worst attributes are mine:
stubbornness, stern, worry,
shyness, pessimism, seriousness.
She will (not) admit to these;
stubbornness at its finest.
She’s imperfect
as much as you and I.
Her good graces aren’t hard to detect.
She’ll never leave me out to dry.
Life is good and bad,
no sense in staying mad;
one of her valuable lessons.
Every umbilical cord tells a story;
mine, shared with my mother.
She gave me birth.
She gave me life.
She gave me worth.
The best I can do is live right.
